About VirtualParks

VirtualParks is a vast collection of 360 degree panoramic photographs of wilderness scenes primarily around North America, drawn from over 3000 panoramas shot by Erik Goetze, panoramic photographer and designer. The panoramas are presented using virtual reality technology.

VirtualParks was first published on the Internet in early 1996. The site has provided virtual views of our natural world to approximately 1.2 million visitors. It has been featured in the San Jose Mercury News, New York Times, Apple's QuickTime HotPicks, Apple's QuickTime News, Tech Nation, PlanetMountain, Hans Nyberg's World Wide VR Panoramas, PNNOnline, and VRmag.

Erik was born and raised in California, and started shooting photographs with an old box camera that his father gave him at about age 8. In his college days he started backpacking in the local mountains and in the Sierra Navada. For many years he hiked, backpacked, and explored while shooting single shots with 35mm film cameras. Then in 1995 he started shooting panoramas while exploring the California coastline. Shortly thereafter VirtualParks was born on the web.

Erik is a member of the International Association of Panoramic Photographers (IAPP) and the International QuickTime VR Assocation (IQTVRA).
